Gert van Dijk imagines life on the fictional Earthlike planet Furaha, Nu Phoenicis IV. This ‘speculative biology’ project offers lifeforms that are physically and evolutionarily possible; in short, Darwin meets Newton.
There are therefore no 10-meter spiders here, nor other oddities that could not work from a mechanical point of view. Animals with radial symmetry and many-legged ‘rusps’ show paths not taken by evolution of Earth. The animals are studied by humans in the ‘Institute of Furahan Biology’. Often these are busier bickering amongst
themselves than with studying Furahan lifeforms, though.
A book about Furahan lifeforms is in progress. It will be published late in 2024 or early in 2025.
The Furaha project combines programming, video animation, writing and digital painting. Examples of all wil be shown during Eurocon.
