Dr. Robert-Jan Wille

Robert-Jan Wille is assistant prof at the Freudenthal Institute (UU). He works on the history of European climate and life sciences. He also teaches the general aspects of the modern history of science in relation to the environment, politics and literature. He often uses science fiction to show how science formed and forms part of larger culture. How did science successfully capture the imagination in the nineteenth century, sometimes with the help of SF? One of the Dutch biologists he studied, Pieter Harting, was also the writer of a powerful SF novel: Anno Domini 2071 (confusingly, originally published in Dutch as Anno 2065).
